Wood pigeon shooting over decoys has long been a favorite type of sport shooting for the British, and only in recent years have hunters made the concerted effort to go pigeon hunting in South America.
Decoyed pigeon hunting in Uruguay, and Argentina also, is alive and well. Both have great pigeon shooting, but Uruguay offers a more convenient option for those who desire to not spend an exorbitant amount of time traveling to remote regions of Argentina, or go pigeon hunting in Paraguay.
Uruguay offers pigeon hunting that is conveniently located close by every major city in the country, and the pigeon hunting in Uruguay can even be combined with other wing shooting trips in South America—usually Uruguay dove hunting , or a Uruguay ducks and doves combo.

There is no season, and no limit placed on the amount pf pigeons one can shoot when pigeon hunting in Argentina and Uruguay. In fact, they governments of these two countries consider them pests, and hunters from all over the world are invited to shoot them—all year long. Pigeon hunts in Argentina and Uruguay are not typically taken as stand alone shoots, mainly because the pigeons only fly well into decoys for a few hours per day.
For this reason, many hunters add dove hunting in Cordoba Argentina or Uruguay duck hunting trips to the mix, in order to round out the action, and experience some diversification of shooting styles—not to mention the chance to sneak in an extra duck hunting season in mid July or August—prime time Uruguay pigeon hunting action!

Los Gauchos Outfitters hosted a few celebrities in Uruguay for a pigeon hunt this past season. Ryan Klesko, a former San Fransico Giant, who also played in the major leagues for the Atlanta Braves. Ryan Klesko is a hunting and fishing pro who hosts Ryan Klesko's Adventures on the Outdoor Channel. Country music superstar, Bobby Pinson, also joined the Los Gauchos Outfitters owner, George Criddle, for a spectacular 2 week Uruguay pigeon, dove, duck, Perdiz and dorado cast and blast. Bobby Pinson is a Nashville native and has hit the top ten country music charts with songs written for Toby Keith, Sugarland, Tim McGraw, and Rascal Flatts just to name a few. Bobby Pinson also loves the outdoors and hunting and fishing is a big part of his life. Captain Robert Arrington, host of Reel Adventures (Fox Sports Network and Comcast Sports Channel) was also part of the group. Robert Arrington had his tv crew down to film the entire week of fishing for dorados, shooting high volume doves, decoyed pigeons, and ducks in Uruguay. The Perdiz hunting showcasing the work of the highly trained bird dogs also turned into a great show! Los Gauchos Outfitters was honored to host this group of celebrities and fine sportsmen who experienced the excitement, and action of hunting and fishing in Uruguay.
